Hey everyone... lookin for some help here. I have been looking for a house for the last 2 years concentrating mainly on the Huntington and Centerport, LI areas but obviously with no luck. I have tried expanding my search and taking trips into other towns and think this site might be more helpful....

Looking for:
- Nice village/town feel
- Peaceful, quiet and laidback attitude
- Maybe just as easy spot where I could put a small catamaran or jet ski into the water... and maybe a few mountain bike trails ha
- Good Schools for resale value

Not looking for:
- Obviously... bad neighborhoods haha
- Tight and/or hilly neighborhoods

As far as a home:
- 2+ Bedroom
- 1+ Bath (a master would be nice)
- Garage
- Basement
- Under $500,000 and $7,500 Taxes
(Dont mind putting work in either)

I'm a firefighter down in Little Italy, NYC... From huntington my commute is about an hour. I dont really mind driving, was even considering moving way out east in hampton bays and even up north to westchester. I just know what I want and am lookin for you guys to help point me in the right direction!

Long Island and Westchester have their own forums, hit them up instead. Here you'll get a very city-centric few of the 'burbs... which is basically... durrrr, scarsdale?

Maybe SI is an option for you, but I don't know if you'll find it too congested.

Otherwise I think NYC is not really what you are looking for. Have you considered Jersey?

What do you mean by that? Is there some sort of NY state only living restriction? I don't think there is.

SI is a lot like Long Island but with lower property taxes, I don't quite get why you don't like it, but everyone has their preferences so I can respect that.

In order to be hired you need to be a resident of the 5 boroughs or surrounding counties (Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester, Rockland, some others) for a year before getting hired or something to that effect.

Some areas in the Bronx, the more suburban areas, might be to your liking. Like Country Club, Throggs Neck, and City Island. City Island is really small though, houses don't exactly pop up on the market all the time.
