I don't know what area would be 32th avenue of Americas, but would an income of 1500$ and 600$ for rent be enough?
maybe additional 220$ for traveling costs...
When I read stuff like this I can't help but wonder what my life would be like if I live where these people are coming from. I just signed the lease on a ~350sq/ft studio for $1600/mo. What kind of palace would I be living in if I just left the state?!

true..but your salary also would most likely be less.
it is said:
$1500 would be monthly non-taxable regular allowance,
and Housing reimbursement $600/mo,
eligible for Car Rental allowance (TBD by the lowest of 3 estimates in working area) with a maximum of $225/wk.
I have NO IDEA what are the costs for living in new york, but I am not looking for partying either...
and thank you for the answers till now.
and Manhattan is for working, could live somewhere within the range of 30min transport

you can rent my entire house in the poconos for that much. 3,000 sq feet on a ski mountain.. thats what it buys out of town
forget about working though, except for tourisuim there are few other jobs and most jobs are min wage, but non the less thats what 1600 bucks get ya
i think 600 bucks a month in manhattan may get you a garage spot
$600/mo is not going to be doable even in the burbs. I live an hour out right now and the absolute cheapest cost to rent a studio.... $900. Then factor in your train pass ($200-250/mo).
Unfortunately, $600 a month for rent won't get you anywhere near the city in a half-way decent area. The only chance you have of getting a place for that type of rent is if you apply for a government building, which is similar to a lottery - chances are you probably won't get selected. You can check the Department of Housing website and look under Apartments and see what's available right now. Depending on your income level, you might qualify for them.

I live outside of Charlston, SC. I pay $1,260 for a 3BR/2.5 BA 1700 square foot house in a neighborhood with a community pool, walking trails, ponds, playgrounds, and a 25 mile drive to the city to work takes me 45 minutes, typically.
Plus, it's usually warm and sunny and there are palm trees and the beach is only 30 minutes But I love NY, just can't imagine living there and raising my kids in such an expensive, crowded place.
