Notorious PhD Raps About Bronx gentrification Video
Ok saw the video. So basically what he's saying is keep the Bronx affordable so that the ghetto culture can live on in the Bronx. I see nothing wrong with Park Slope. It's become a beautiful community. Why deter the Bronx from having the same success Park Slope has had? It's stupid.

He mentions he's been in Park Slope since the '70s which I almost 100% guarantee he lives in a rent stabilized apartment. And I bet he pays below market rent and feels threaten by the gentrification in Park Slope because rents go up. It's easy to say keep the Bronx affordable aka keep it "hood" when you live in a safe, non-ghetto community such as Park Slope. If he such an advocate of affordable rents and the Bronx, then this Professor should vacate his 1970's apartment and move to the Bronx. Fat chance, you know he ain't doing that. So in my opinion, he's full of ish in saying keep the Bronx "affordable".

How can you disagree when you basically repeated what I said word for word and point for point....

do you read the other posts before you disagree with people?

Everyone has the same basic levels of opportunity which is a free public education, the ability to not do drugs, the ability to not commit crimes, and the ability to not become impregnated/impregnate someone.

The above 4 things are the ONLY thing that keeps someone in the ghetto. Everyone has equal access to them, whether you are born in a crack house or are a Rockefeller.

Some people have a leg up, that is true, but we are not talking about the ability to run a fortunate 500 company or become a billionaire...We are only talking about being able to work yourself out of the ghetto, which is not an insurmountable task if you STOP making excuses and get off your ass.

The problem with kids in New York is that they easily get influenced by their surroundings. Even in middle class areas like Howard Beach or Glendale the kids get influenced by the wrong people often, and they end up paying the price for it when they get older. It's very hard not to get influenced by your surroundings if you grow up in a ghetto/high crime low income community.

Kids are terrible everywhere. Rich or poor alike. If you are the type of person that only does what your friends tell you to do, you were going to be a failure, regardless of being born in the ghetto.

Most people on this thread act like ghetto trash has absolutely no chance in life. There futures are predetermined. There is no way to escape the ghetto.

You see, there is peer pressure, and societal pressure, and years of oppression blah blah blah.

Why do people make so many excuses for them? They CHOOSE to be thugs. They could choose not too. Simple.

When you're a kid growing up in a ghetto, your only choices are usually to become friends with "ghetto" kids [which usually means "become one of them"], of spend most of your childhood in social isolation.

I grew up in a not so good area, and even though I never went down that path, I never had a lot of good friends or a great childhood as a result.

Stop making excuses to justify why people are ghetto. JayBrown has a point. Everyone has the access to public schools and free education. The tools are there. The question is what are you going to use them for? Everyone has access to be successful in whatever they decide to do. The ultimate blame goes towards the individual for lack of desire, ambition and the parents for not properly parenting.

1) Take advantage of free government education
2) Don't get knocked up/knock someone up
3) Don't do drugs
4) Don't commit crimes

Wow....such an insurmountable set of goals....

We all live in the ghetto dude, because these are choices that EVERYONE of us make every day. And whether you live in the bronx or in the hamptons, if you don't follow these rules, your life sucks. It's called personal responsibility. Stop blaming your situation on external factors. It's.....all....you!
