So I just saw on another thread someone said "you need to make 70K to live in NYC", So I'm curious what the people on this board do, what they make, and where they live. Obviously, if you don't want to give out numbers you can just say something along what percentage of your income you spend on housing.
To start, I'm 25, I work for <A company that won't let me say their name online, but whose service you all most likely use>. I make ~60K (+/-) and I have a ~1600/mn studio in the W.Village.
It's expensive (and frankly more than I was originally looking to spend) but I figured, I can afford it without having to dip into my savings (other than moving costs) and when I'm 35 I'm not going to want to overspend to live in a trendy neighborhood, so might as well get it out of the way now.
landscape designer, living off ~60k(+/-) i dont make quite that working b/c sometimes I am part-time b/c i go to school too and its impossible to do both at times, but my man helps me out and makes up the difference
live in one bedroom ,lower central harlem, rent plus utilities 1800 (my budget when I moved here was 1500, i went over to be near the park, might have been a bad idea)
i should probably live somewhere where i pay half as much in rent, but then i stroll into central park and all that money i am not saving just doesnt seem to matter, until i write the rent check the next month, then I make myself stroll into central park again, and so the cycle goes
Well Miles, there goes another! Might as well resign yourself to being a fantasy writer riding the subways alone past midnight, crashing senior ladies tea parties in the park, and pretending to be a hipster. Sigh.

Consultant for a wireless phone company and private investor. I own a condo (paid for) in a walkup building in Greenwich Village. Common charges are $631/month with yearly taxes of $6400. Due to work I spend 6 nights a month in Philadelphia so I also rent a small apartment there (it's cheaper then a decent hotel).
