Is it possible to view an apartment for rent while visiting the city? I would like to see what an actual apartment looks like. Im sure they doctor up some of the pictures in rental ads. How could I go about seeing one? I dont plan to move for a couple years, but I'd like to start planning now to make sure I'm ready when I decide to move.

I think it'd be a waste of your time and the LL/broker's time. I'd wait until closer to your actual moving date.

It's possible - but you'd have to pretend that you're interested in looking at it for an immediate rental as the broker won't want to take you to a viewing as he/she'll not be having the potential for a commission now. You can also search for open-house rentals (advertised online) where it's easier to view apartments.
