Mark's off Madison, which I thought was a bagel shop, is actually a combination bakery/restaurant with very good sour dough bread. There have been times they told me to wait a few minutes for the sour dough break to finish baking and I got it right out of the oven. Here is their website https://www.marksoffmadison.com/
believe it or not Trader Joes has a nice sourdough, comes in white and multigrain. And the multigrain is not too heavy.
It's called San Francisco style Sourdough, has a traditional Boule shape, and medium large crumb with plenty of sourdough flavor.
I put half in the freezer.
I am quite impressed with Marie Blanchere bakery. I live in queens and I would venture out. There’s a one location in the city and one in great neck, LI. I’m yet to be disappointed - always fresh and reasonably priced for what you buy. Shopped here for thanksgiving pies which everyone loved.
Sourdough is very very good, though I admit I’m not technically expert.
