Hi, I am an international student, as I love to travel & meet people from different cultures! thus am looking forward to the new adventure at hand, moving to NYC for a couple of months! September onwards.

I am looking to sublet a cosy place! Preferably in an all-female living situation around "Williamsburg." I'm a little apprehensive since I've been hearing a-lot of do's & don'ts once it comes to "Brooklyn" - mostly some part of it. I'm looking to visit around September & since I'm a student my budget doesn't exceed $800-1000 at max, including the utilities! Is there a likelihood I'll find a decent place & room mates on such short notice?

Well, I've been looking for places over Craig's List. I hear New Yorkers swear by it. No luck so far.

I'd appreciate if you'd guide me.

Thanks!

What do you mean "No luck so far"? Do you mean there's nothing that sounds good? Or that the options are too expensive? Or that people aren't answering your e-mails?

Craigslist is probably your best option, but you have to be careful, and should really never send money in advance, but wait until you get here. Are you going to school here?

Don't restrict yourself to Williamsburg. Maybe also try Greenpoint, Fort Greene and Prospect Heights in Brooklyn and Astoria (Queens). Astoria will probably give you the best value. Your budget is on the low side for a room in the most sought-after places like Williamsburg.

You might actually have to be here in NYC in person to have people respond to your emails. You might have trouble finding roommates who would accept you as a renter sight-unseen from afar. Also, you shouldn't put yourself in the position of sending money in advance to people you have never met in person and for a room you have never seen.
