Another apartment question. I've found a great looking apartment on West 71st Street between Columbus and Central Park West. Was wondering if anybody could give me their opinion on that particular area. Good restaurants, coffee shops, things to do, etc.

Also, the price of the studio is $3500 a month which includes utilities. Fully furnished. Actually really nicely furnished like a nice hotel suite. Does that sound like a reasonable price for May - June?

Really considering locking in this apartment for the summer. Have a friend in the area who will check it out before I sign a lease but wanted to get some opinions from the forum first. Thanks.

That's a really fantastic, convenient location. As Viralmd said, it does appear a little prcey though. Maybe the furnishings include a washer/dryer, sauna, private gym, luxurious elegant pieces of furniture, top of the line appliances, etc.?

Does "studio" = a one room box? For $3500? That is insane.

Yup. But don't worry - there ARE studios that rent for more. Really. Rents/prices in NYC require some adjustment in attitude if you're coming from elsewhere.

Plus it's a short term rental, which will have a higher price.

There are some great restaurants and coffee shops in the area. And, all things considered, for a short-term, furnished rental, it's not that high, compared to the price of a hotel room for the same period.

Absolutely, figure it's about $117/night in a great area. You'd pay at least $300/night for a hotel.

For a short term rental in that location, I'd say you are doing pretty good if the place checks out. Wonderful area. One of the best in the city.

Great area; we just moved to West 71st street between Columbus and Broadway yesterday all the way from London!! We are paying $2100 a month for a newly refurbished 1 bed but it is unfurnished and it's a year lease, and utilities aren't included (actually, my employer is paying half so we are getting a very good deal! )

There are loads of restaurants and shops around, plus you are close to the subway and of course, the park.
