I just had to start this thread and was curious to see what others thought.
Today my partner and I decided to take in some sights and sounds and smells of NYC and intermingled with our experience we decided out of an innate sense of curiosity to check out the SEX Museum on 27th and fifth ave.
Well, that was the biggest rip off that I have allowed myself to be so gullible about in a long time!
First floor was rather interesting with photo's and discussion of sexual behavior amongst animals and honestly I learned a thing or two that I never knew. NO, it will not get me a better paid job but hey, its another interesting tid bit to add to my arsenal of life!
But the second floor was just an excuse for pornography and candid scenes of male and female genitalia and yes there were some men there that I didn't feel were there purely for cerebral stimulation!
The last floor (which was the first floor) was a store were they sold some silly sex toys and other paraphenelia!
So whats your story?

No, it isn't the $30K a month rentals, or the $50 one hour parking, or $30 sandwiches.
Biggest rip-off is NYC itself.
The thing is that New Yorkers are like the frog in the hot water. They usually stay in the city and don't notice the temperature going up and up.
However, after you leave the city for a while, only when you get back you realize what a rip-off NYC is.

That's funny - guess you missed the 799,999 other posts on this forum complaining about the fact that everyone who lives here is a recent transplant from Ohio.

Transplants from Ohio understand the issue well. I referred to old guard citizens, who live in NYC forever, don't own cars and rarely get out.

Great post! My exact sentiments. I've lived outside the city for several years on and off, and whenever I had gone back I noticed some of the changes that my friends and family who lived there forever had not noticed. I also realized all of the things that I loved about NY when I didn't live there. I've been to major cities all over the country and none compare to NYC. For me there was no substitute, and the ones that came close (San Fran, Seattle, Chicago) are just as expensive as NYC.
