It is terrible all the way around. But a cop should know better. Even if one or two drinks didn't actually impair your driving to the point where it caused you to run down somebody you have no win. Example you are legally intoxicated and someone who is crazy jumps in front of your car on purpose. It will not matter legally unless they have proof the person wanted to or did commit suicide jumping in front of your car. A person can jaywalk and run on a busy street you are guilty by a presumption if you hit and injure or kill that person and you are legally drunk. You have no win. If that cop who was driving was 100% sober it would have just been a tragic accident and he would not be facing serious prison time. We all need to never drink and drive and be careful period as drivers and pedestrians.

I do agree so much about the not drinking/driving situation. It seems that everyday we hear of these stories on the news - and everyone comes out a loser. I think that drinking in moderation is great, but even two drinks, while not making one intoxicated, can impair one's mental faculties while operating machinery or equipment - as in a vehicle, for example.

Oh for Petes sake- lighten up - why does it matter that she was a grad student- or out dancing or a woman- it's called filler material-don't be so self righteous.

BTW an American guy was also hurt in the accident. I think he's doing okay, but is still in the hospital. The girl was his girlfriend.

Yeah but the OP has a history of using race/ethnicity as a tool to elicit responses.
