I am visiting next weekend and would like to do some shopping for old vintage vinyl records. I have searched all over the web and found very scant returns. A lot of the stores I have seen says they are closed now so I am not sure.
If anyone knows anything about the vinyl scene in New York, please let me know. I am preferably looking for somewhere to purchase old Jazz records from the 40's-60's. And for Soul records from the 60-70's, and for Blues from the 40's.
This is a long shot but Turntable Lab in East Village (Which is in Manhattan- Down Town I think) might be able to help. It is primarily a store for hip-hop DJs, But somebody in there should be knowledgeable as to the spots for throwback vinyl. Google the name and give 'em a call.
The East Village is in lower Manhattan, and is probably your best bet for vinyl in general. There are tons of good shops in the area.
For jazz vinyl, check out Norman's Sound and Vision, also in the East Village (right by Cooper Union). Phenomenal selection and extremely knowledgeable staff. Their prices are pretty decent too.
I haven't been there in a while, but if it's still around...the Record Runner, on Carmine Street just off 6th Avenue in the Village was always THE place. If they haven't got it, it probably can't be had!
