Hi all!

I would appreciate any information on commuting via car from Brooklyn Park Slope to Mount Vernon Westchester....

Approximate travel time, Best time in the Morning to commute 8 am - 9 am, Best time to return to brooklyn 4 pm - 6pm

I am considering a job in the Mount Vernon, Westchester area and am not sure if its possible or if I would be driving all day long. The train is not an option since it takes about 2.5 hours via Subway and metro north.

Also What the cost of tolls should be for this trip.

Thank you.

Huh? Mount Vernon is about a half an hour from Grand Central on the Metro-North, and Park Slope is about a half an hour from 42nd Street on the F train (give or take depending on where in PS you live). It'd be about an hour, not 2.5.

But if you have a car already I'd agree not to take the train only because the Metro-North is expensive.

Agreed. And it depends on where you are going in Mt Vernon. The 2 train and the 5 train both go through Brooklyn and end in the north Bronx literally minutes from Mt Vernon. There are buses from these subway stops into Mt Vernon.I think the last stop on the 2 ( 241 st) is a couple of blocks from Mt Vernon. In other words you can walk into Mt Vernon from the end of the subway line in a few minutes. Check out exactly where you are going and find out if it is near the end of either of those 2 subway lines.

There is something to be said for a 1 train ride even if it is a long one!

What if the OP insists on driving? How long that ride would be? Brooklyn - Queens - Whitestone Bridge - The Bronx - Mt. Vernon...I estimate it at about an hour as well, though it isn't a pleasant drive... The bridge toll should be $6 each way, isn't it?

yes,I would guess probably about an hour and $5.00 each way on the bridge.
Probably BQE to Triboro to The Bruckner to The Bronx River Parkway. It might even be only 40 minutes with luck at off peak hours.

I would say that an hour would be a pretty unrealistic estimate... traffic on the BQE is nearly always at a dead standstill; I never, ever take it. You might be better off going Grand Army Plaza > Eastern Parkway > Jackie Robinson Parkway > Van Wyck Expressway > Whitestone Bridge.
