You guys should venture down to the Wall St area, if you thank two cops with uzi's are bad. It's a show of force. After 9/11, NYPD starting utilizing their ESU squads in different capacity and anti-terrorism is one of them.

What is the big deal? They're police, not storm troopers--despite what people like to say on occasion. I defy anyone to show me who's been shot by a machine gun carried by a NYPD officer.
Probably some sort of drill or training. Regular beat cops are not trained to use machine guns. There are specific units that are trained and allowed to use them. So don't worry about some dumb comp shooting you with a machine gun.

In fact, you've got a lot more to worry about from some lunatic walking around carrying a hidden gun, liable to shoot you for no other reason than he thought you were looking at him strangely.

I didn't think it's a big deal and I have seen it before in NYC. I just found it creepy. It reminds me of 9/11, social instability, and it reminds me of seeing these big ugly guns in European and Asian airports and banks. (There would be a lot less of a bank robbery problem in the US if we followed the lead of other countries where there is always a "pre-entrance foyer" to every consumer bank holding one or two uniformed men armed with SMGs.)

Israel anyone? I mean nearly every major institution including their national airline carrier, has someone totting a gun in plain sight. This is a new world we are living in. Better start getting use to it, cause it ain’t going nowhere.

If our airlines had the same level of security as El Al, 9/11 would not have happened as the cockpits would have been locked to intruders and the flight crew would have been protected.

Lets hope and pray this never happens.
