Well let's see. There are a variety of bodegas in that area, one on the corner of Halsey and Ralph and I am pretty sure that there is one over on Patchen also. The bus routes would be the B46 which goes down Malcolm X and you would walk 1 block to get to Pathen, the B26 which runs on Halsey and goes Downtown Brooklyn and I think Ridgewood, the B47 which runs down Ralph Avenue or you could walk over to Fulton Street for the B25. Trains would be the A train, either Utica or Ralph (I prefer Utica) or the J/Z Halsey Street. The police station is not too far away on Ralph and Quincy and there is a Bank of America there also. An Associated Supermarket on Broadway right off of Ralph Avenue and a Meat Market on the same block.

As far as Halsey Street itself, I don't care for the street due to it being a bus route, narrow and 2 way street but that is a personal preference. I have not seen a lot of crime around there but you would need to be aware of your surroundings. I have a family friend, who is blind, that has lived in that area for many, many years and never had any problems. My family lived on Macon for a couple of years so I became familiar with the area and it was pretty decent too me but you just have to be aware and be careful. Best of luck.
