You don't know how much debt the OP has: student loans, car payments, etc. And that salary comes with a WHOPPING federal, state and city income tax burden.
Monthly garage is WAY more thann $200/month. Even in Washington Heights. It was more than that when I lived there in the early 1980s.
Not in my neighborhood. It's $175. And yes, I've done the research and I know what I'm talking about.
I never said he could get a garage for $200 in MANHATTAN. I specifically said outer boroughs, so Washington Heights, which is in Manhattan, really has nothing to do with what I said.

And that's fine. I was talking about Washington Heights.
But I think it's entirely possible to get a $1100 studio is a nice outerbourgh neighborhood with a 10 minute walk to the train, pay $200 for parking in a lot or a garage, and have a commute to work of between 30-60 minutes door to door on the subway.

Then why the comment about $200 a month? My post was the only one that gave a price for a garage. It would stand to reason that you were responding to my post, if you say something like "Monthly garage is WAY more than $200/month"

now I am frightened, how much federal, state tax are we talking about?
Yes, I do have school loans. I want a 1400 apartment, so I can have excess to pay bills, pay for parking, shop...have a good quality of life and not just live from paycheck to paycheck.
Wow, New York is tough...definitely not for the weak hearted. I don't think I can live in a studio, I want a 1 bedroom. Need to be close to the party scene too........keep the ideas coming
So no one on this board owns a car and lives in NYC? I love my car
i own a car but i live in Arverne, Queens. look it up on a map and you'll see why i have one. i dont even drive it during the week, i take the train to the city. and i still have alternate side of the street parking on my block, which makes mondays and wednesdays a hassle. there's also an apartment complex across the street from my apartment in which the residents are too cheap to pay to park in their lot, so they take up a lot of spaces on the block.
