You know, data may not be compiled in real time. In clinical studies, we collect data all the time - MONTHS after events occurred. It's not always possible to collate and organize data in real time.

That is a possibility also Viral..I would agree with that. Maybe it has not been classified yet as a Homicide, or whatever, so they are waiting a bit until it is more clear. It makes sense...

Yeah, I see. But it was pretty clear. He got shot at around 8:30 pm on friday night and died hours later I believe.

My mom knows the family of the victim... He was puerto rican who lived on 52nd street between 4th and 5th avenue.

But how do you know whether it was or wasn't counted ? The report posted by SobroGuy states that there were 3 murders in the city last week . It doesn't say anything about where. It may have been counted as 1 of the 3 or he may have actually died on Saturday and will wind up in this weeks stats .

It also says at the bottom of all compstat reports that the figures are preliminary and subject to revision

They have the stats for each precinct. 51st street and 4th avenue falls under the 72nd precinct.

But eh, same thing happened last year during July. Which is why I don't fully believe the crime stats. Yeah, I know crime is down, and probably is still going down... But they deffinitely cover up some murders.

I can't agree that they "cover up" murders...I think the dead body count is accurate a measure that you can find..most other crimes oftentimes go unreported and /or downgraded...I typically look to the murder rate for some reasonable idea about crime in the city.

KRS we know that you believe the stats are made up, and that they are somehow "hiding" bodies..it is a shame that you could not possibly fathom that NYC has "only" 6 murders in two weeks. As we stated though, those numbers do change as some are classified as suicides, murders, etc...when they get ALL the information they make the proper allocation. But that does not matter to you b/c unless we are at 2,500 murders per quarter it must be all lies right?
