I want to know what type of lifestyle in Manhattan you could live with around $450,000 a year?
I ideally want a luxury 2 bedroom apartment, parking garage + luxury car, etc. but I want to live comfortably and not have to stretch. I've been to NYC a few times and it's amazing, but I've never really had a chance to scope out the areas.
I'm not really trying to come off as a snob, but I live very comfortably where I am and I would rather not give it up, but downsizing is not a problem for me. I would sacrifice to live in the city.
Is it doable? What parts of the city could you recommend?

Whare u coming from??? What do you call living luxury? Luxury car= bad investment. Buy a Ford. 450k will get you pretty good. As far as a Lux Appt in Manhat, just go look at the prices. You will move to Queens. I make Doc pay and theres no way I would give those money hungry investors rent in midtown. Been there, done that cuz I had 2. Its lower end stuff for me. Loose the pride, drive a ford and make money if you ask me. If not, your just wasting your time and $ to look good.
"Can I live in half a million dollars a year? Will I survive? Please tell me!!"
And then this Gsd353 tops it off saying he or she will do "pretty good", but better not to buy a car and also: move to Queens. Manhattan is too expensive!
Alright, people. Let me tell you all: it is not funny.
Can you live on $450k a year? Of course you can! With that type of money, living in the Upper East side won't even be a problem.
Well with a 450k annual salary you could easily afford a $9,000 a month rent. Where you might find an apartment that charges $9,000 a month is somewhat beyond me, so I think you should be ok.
With that type of money why don't you just save up some cash for a 20% downpayment and buy a condo or a co-op?
If I had $450,000 and wanted luxury, I'd ask my brother to move out of his apartment on CPW.
Seriously, that is the place to buy, not rent--lower 60s, good underground parking, facing the park, in walking distance to some good eats, and right near the opera and outdoor art shows.

Go waste your time elsewhere.
Come on now, not trying to brag. For a person with "a high class of living" makes him or her no different that you. Just different priorities. We all live within our means. When I say "pretty good" I dont mean it will be a struggle to live in NYC. I made it fine living in Queens for a year while in school. I was making 350 a week back then. Im just saying with money comes even more debt. 450k dosent mean much when your personal standards / choices are on a different level. Not trying to be aarogant or brag. I grew up in Brookln. I no what low standards are. I just chose higher ones when I grew up. No offense dude.
I don't know, on nearly half a mil a year I think you might have to settle for Staten Island and take the bus!
