I've never been to any of the more upscale steakhouses in NYC, so I'm wondering if anyone here can comment on some of the top steakhouses by comarison. Places like Peter Luger's, The Old Homestead, Sparks etc. Anyone been to all or some and have a comparison of which you liked best?
My favorite place is Angelo & Maxie's, the atmosphere, service and food are all impeccable. I've been here over 100 times and each time everything was perfect. I love their lunch bargains--it's a great way to sample the restaurant without spending more than $40. They make the best fried calmari in Manhattan. Ok, the filet mignon, mashed potatoes are mouth watering. Always cooked to my delight the way I asked. You can't go wrong with steak, salmon, or anything else on the menu. Take a slice of cheescake to go.

There's also one of the most famous, Peter Luger's. Just over the Williamsburg Bridge in Brooklyn. Not cheap...but portions that will leave you goggle-eyed!

Depends on what cut of meat you want. I think Peter Lugers has the best porterhouse. Wolfgang's on Park AVe in the city is pretty decent as well. It was opened by an ex-Peter Lugers guy and it takes credit cards. Not the real thing by a close substitute.
Sparks has some really nice cuts as well. I've always had a nice experience.
I would forgo Ruth's Chris, the Palm, Bobby Vans (although they do a nice steak salad but I'd go for lunch)
Ben Benson's is supposed to be great but I've never been.
STK, Prime and Craftsteak do a 'fancier' cut and have a bit more creativity than your normal steakhouses.
Hi, my husband is traveling to NYC and is trying to plan on a nice steak house. He has been vegetarian for just over 2 years now but says he sees maybe "5 steaks" in his future...but that is besides the point
Can anyone recommend a steak house that offers steak that was humanely raised, free range grass fed, no hormones or antibiotics and slaughtered on site? (not sent off on a truck to a slaughter house)
thanks in advance!
