I have potential to work in NYC with a good paying job making $150k/yr. I also I am trying to finish my MBA at NYU while working so I would like to live/work/school in NYC but would obviously like to live near NYU and Union Square. Is this feasible and where do you reccomend living? Can I get by on a 1-2 bedroom "nice" apt for that salary?

You can easily afford $5k per month in rent. Get a big place.

Frankly, I don't agree. At this point in your life it's foolhardy to spend that much on housing, even if you CAN afford it. Make sure you live within your means, have enough money left for a splurge now and again and SAVE some money for the future. I'm sure many people approaching retirement now wish they'd have done that.

I would suggest the area EAST of Union Square, if you want to live in Manhattan. West of Union Square is Chelsea and quite pricey. You'll get more bang for the buck going East. Or you might want to think about Brooklyn. But don't blow all your money on rent - you'll never get it back, and, given that you're working AND in school, how much are you really going to actually be IN your apartment?

i got my ba and mba (real estate) from nyu but 1st year dorming there made me get out of manhattan for good, if i had all that $$$ coming in i would take advantage of the buyers market and get an apt in forest hills or lic if u dont wanna throw over at least 12k down drain each year (yearly lease is the minimum eh?)

if u do then yeah an apartment anywhere arround unions sq or south of murray

I know that NYU has housing through Stuyvesant Town/Peter Cooper Village. They rent a certain number of apartments there and then sublet them to students. Stuyvesant Town is very nice and in the area you're looking for (ST runs from 1st Ave to Avenue C and from 14th St to 20th St) and it's convenient to the 14th St crosstown bus, as well as the 1st Ave bus and the L train. If you walk a few more blocks, you can get the crosstown 23rd St bus.

I don't know what NYU charges the students but I think you'd be sharing.
