Your question is a bit vague. Are you referring to the whole state of New York or just NYC? Please be a little more specific.
To be honest im sure.... im from Ireland and never been to NY, im planning to go in the summer, but not sure where. Where would recomend (e.g Long Island, Manthan, Queens, Cape Cod)? i have no idea!!

Avoid Long Island like the plague. I'm 48, and I think it's dull. At half my age, I'd be plotting my escape like Papillion from Devil's Island.
Some exceptions: Fire Island is gorgeous; some parts of it are staked out as "gay" hangouts, I'd avoid them. Some others might not. Jones Beach is a lovely place to bathe during the summer, it's public transit accessible via the Freeport LIRR station.
