I have several concerns for New York City in the far future. Sea levels will rise over the centuries, causing flooding problems for the whole city. Also, hurricanes will get stronger due to climate change, and may bring storms stronger than Sandy. On top of this, NYC lies on the Ramapo Fault, which is bound to have a major quake in the next few hundred years. So my question is, will humans have technology that can prevent seas from rising, hurricanes from being super intense, and even earthquakes? I'm aware I won't be around in 500 years. This is a hypothetical question though. Thoughts?
I think the biggest threat to NYC, and civilization in general is attack by nuclear arms. I know it's not fashionable at the moment, but we all still have bombs that are well maintained, pointed at each other and ready to launch at a moments notice.
Almost every other threat is gradual and we'll deal with it.

Personally try not to waste my time on things that I either cannot control or certainly won't be around to witness.
Can understand even a hypothetical debate for the sake of one's children or grandchildren, but seriously... five centuries from now?
Doesn't matter, artificial intelligence will be taking over earth before any of those events happen anyway.
^^ highly likely scenario. I'm wondering how the AI would decide whom to pick off first.
