Yes, esp. during the day they steal parts off your car. Lately by my school they are taking all the emblems off the back. They took my "H" and the word civic right off a couple of weeks ago. Mirrors get stolen a lot. If you have a GPS make sure you clean the ring off the window on the inside cause if they see the ring they will break in and look to take your GPS. I think getting a Hyundai is a good bet.
Sometimes, it's the inconvenience that will kill you if they steal/break in/vandalize your car. Where will you get a car in the mean-while to drive while yours is getting repaired? Also...insurance claims take forever (I'm still waiting on a small payment).
They took my mother's car BATTERY when it was parked 1-2 blocks from her school (in a better neighborhood) in the day time. The car was an OLD car. This was maybe 5-7 yrs ago.
I'd say...if your co-workers are getting their cars broken into...get a used car.
My data is old...but I do know quite a few ppl who had their side mirrors stolen in Hondas & Toyotas. Nothing should be visible. No radio (even w the face plate removed...a friend of mine had hers stolen in Manhattan), no CDs even. I know ppl who had their window broken for a cup of quarters (for parking).
