Hi I have a rather benign question: I notice many stores in and around Manhattan that offer massage by various asian people . I have noticed many times they are in the back end of their herbal stores.
I am just wondering if they are actually licensed massage therapists or if they are using certain wording to get them around the state laws of massage therapy.

I am not wanting to get anyone in trouble .I am simply curious. I have walked in a few and have the most wonderful massages, energy healing and acupuncture.
Thanks in advance.

Default I suppose

anyone could hold out as a massage therapist. but the best one to answer that is those agencies who license and regulate massage services. they have specific codes and rules as to what exactly constitutes fraud, etc

Well, I guess that is what I am wondering about. Whether they are licensed to practice in the state of NY and if not , however are they getting around that one? And if they aren't licensed I am guessing the state of NY is turning a blind eye? OR their terminology is such that they are not causing any raised eyebrows....

I highly doubt they are licensed. Licensed masseuses usually advertise their services as such. But as long as there is no one leaving their massage really happy (if you catch my drift), and there are no dangers the state turns a blind eye or just doesn't have the time to bother.
