Are either of these areas good ones to live in? Are the expensive relative to NYC general housing costs? What I see these areas as having in common are single family detached homes near a really nice park- just southwest of Flushing Meadows-Corona Park for Parkside and just south of Prospect Park for Kensington.

What I don't know is if these areas are good areas in terms of crime, in terms of proximity to other amenities, how bike friendly they are, and how they are priced compared to the (National Association of Homebuilders) NYC/NJ median home price of $418k. And if people think they are just great neighborhoods. Anybody know anything about these two areas? Anybody have any other areas of NYC that are great neighborhoods with convenient access to a great park (and/or biking) that they would prefer over these two? Thanks.

My neighbors in NJ were from Kensington. They really liked it there but were priced out about ten years ago.

Kensington is a GREAT neighborhood on all counts. Not so familiar with Parkside.

I live right by Kensington...I don't know your personality but I think you would like it. Overall, pretty safe (but it's RIGHT by Flatbush so things happen crime wise). Very diverse in culture, eateries etc(said to be one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the country). Check it out and see how you like it. I don't know much about Queens so I can't say anything about that.
