Yeah, I heard it on CNN. Larger cities are growing, contrary to conventional wisdom. Sprawl has grinded down. Hopefully this isn't just the recession and is the manifestation of a long term change in public perception.

Overall, statistics show a specific resurgence in the northeast, midwest and coastal areas.

Great news!!! NYC needs to keep growing. My birth place (raised in Charlotte however) should be the World's largest city. Hopefully, one day it will be.

NYC used to be the largest city in the world by population until the 70s when it was surpassed by Tokyo.

Why does a city need to be the 'World's Largest City'? That is not what makes a city great.

I know. That is why I said what I said. I would like NYC to have that title again.

Yeah, but everything is bigger in NYC. You are right though, it really doesn't matter. NYC is great regardless. Still, I would like NYC to have World's largest city bragging rights again. She deserves that much after the 911 BS. It would certainly send a message to future terrorist cowards that they can not break the American spirit. NYC is a living example of that spirit. Or have we forgotten already?

How does NYCs municipal population have any bearing on the 'american spirit'?

The same reasons why NYC and DC were targeted on 911. Outside of America, NYC and DC are symbols of America's strength. This is a fact. Put your local civic pride on hold for one second and understand what it would mean if post-911 NYC bounced back to become the World's largest city again!!! Think about it!!!

Where exactly are they moving in NYC? I'd like to know. I'm guessing Manhattan isn't seeing the majority of that growth.

This is just my opinion, but personally, I don't see why a metro of 20 million people would want to get much larger...

Metro Tokyo is 32 million and you all want to beat that? That just sounds like an awful lot of people to me. Wouldn't that many people be a bit...overwhelming?
