Thank you all for the usefull information that I have gotten from this thread. I took the exam back in Jun 09 resently got my score 91 and my list number is 2537. I guess I have a long way to go. Thanks again
I was 20yrd old when I took the train operator test last year june 2010, Im 21 now, does age matter?
Also, I got my result yesterday, It was a 95, and my list number was something like 957, what does this mean exactly, what are my chances of being hired with these credentials?
Also I don't have a driver's license, is this needed to to be a train operator?

By the time they'll contact you, if they contact you, you'll probably be in your mid-to-late 20s.

Your 957 list number means that there are 956 potential Train Operators ahead of you, not to forget the additional 800 or so current MTA conductors & bus operators waiting for this position as well. As far as being your chances, only the MTA knows.

It didn't say so in the notice of examination sheet detailing how to qualify, so I guess no.

Either s/he has the credentials(must be a mix of college & full-time work. No way he's been working full time since 15) or someone made a mistake giving him/her the test notice since s/he had to have the requirements listed by the application deadline.
I just got the results for my train operator test. I have a final multiple of 100 since Im a veteran. (I scored a 95 plus 5 pts for being a vet) Im number 43 on the list. About how much will my salary be? I have 8 years of military background if it helps.

I believe there's a promotional class out right now. You'll probably have to wait until callups from the open competitive list begin, but with that list number you shouldn't have a problem; you'd probably be in the first class called from that list.
And I believe Motorman Mike listed salaries on the previous page of this thread. (Your military background will have absolutely no effect on your salary; all that did was push you up on the list. After that, it becomes a level playing field).

90k yr only if there is a lot of OT along with making the truck every day. Don't forget the 12 paid holidays a year, with the MTA at least for awhile you can kiss your weekends and holidays goodbye.
Even though Sanitation worker is a very dangerous job, train operators have an elevated lung cancer risk due to rail dust.
