Been to NYC many times, each time I toy with the idea of moving there. Was there last weekend and the desire to live there still lingers. I'm a bit older than I was the last time I thought about it, not "old", I am 37 and not sure what it would be like. I currently live in DC so I'm used to being in a pricey area, yes, I am aware that NYC is even more $$$! I would also do it alone and do not know anyone in the city. I want to live in Manhattan. Is it worth fullfulling my dream? How hard is it to meet people, find a job and survive? Ideas/suggestions and other thoughts are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I made the move from DC to Manhattan with the same dream at 30. Do it. You live once. What do you have to lose. You can always return home (to DC). I stayed for just under 10 years.
I finally left Manhattan and now live in Atlanta and would never regret my Manhattan experience. Go for it!!

It's very easy to meet people. Getting a job is harder - maybe you can start job searching from DC?

Only you can answer it.
The key is to transfer from general slogans to detailed planning. What is your dream about NYC? What do you expect NYC to be (that DC is not)? Try to be as detailed as possible. For example, a young fashion model can find opportunities in NYC that DC can never match.
They say the devil is in the details. Can you find work in your field? Will you be able to afford NYC? No, not only the rent but everything else you want?
If you have reasonable answers to all questions go for it.
