Hi all. New to the forum and needed information. I've been looking at apts on Edgecombe between 145th-155th. Is this area safe? It seemed to be a quiet block but you just never know. Thanks in advance!

It's spotty some blocks are better than others. What I personally don't like about Edgecombe is that it feels too desolate at times. Maybe it's a preference but I don't always feel safe around there. One thing is safe and quiet like Fort Washington, Convent, etc, and another thing is desolate like Edgecombe.

I agree with this assessment of the area. I would stay very close to W 145th St, if I were choosing an apt on Edgecomb Ave. You would be near a major crosstown street which W 145th is, and you would be closer to shopping and transportation.

You are also close to transportation on 155th, but shopping is very limited. It is also more desolate, up in that area of Edgecomb. In the middle from 147th to 155th you are very cut off from everything.

That's not exactly true... drugs (mainly marijuana) can be found ANYWHERE in the country, regardless of the amount of crime... so I don't think if there's drugs, there is crime... more like if there's crime, there's probably drugs.

Some one did get killed, I guess this neighborhood is for those that have a tolorance for certain behavior, I've been here for 6 months and in the process of breaking my lease and moving, Anyone that thinks their isn't a drug problem on edgecombe between 150 and 155th is indeed entitled to their opinion, I might suggest having a conversation with anyone in the 30th pct. god willing I will be OUT OF HERE befor summer

Law enforcement considers certain spots of edgecombe hot spots, Narcotics considers 150th through 155th a PERP block

Default Edgecombe Avenue

Location: Manhattan North i.e. Harlem
Black People live there.
It is gentrified. (World Wide: name the region, they are here)
Most of the people who live there are from there.
The right for white people to return to Harlem from white flight is whitey's god given right, but a Palestinian cannot go back to Jerusalem. When white people move uptown they purchase their house or pay a mortgage, *the bank won't let someone buy their apartment*, they usually have dogs, and they ignore the denizens. Or they pretend to be 'black', or they have a black woman, you know that sort of thing. Get a brown stone and settle in and make it with the maid. Some Arab bodega owners are selling tobacco, pork, and alcohol. Asians come into the laundromat selling bootleg DVD's. Try to go downtown to China Town and sell a pencil!

People in all neighborhoods, go out to get money, and come home to sleep. That also happens in Manhattan when you live close to the train, or the bus, so you can go downtown and get paper.

As for all other subjects: In New York City you can buy almost what ever you want (you can't buy love, but you can buy sex). That is the nature of this City. If you don't want it, don't buy it.
