I will be attending an event at Hunter College at 695 Park Ave, NY, and I will be arriving/departing JFK. Could you recommend some area on the subway route between those two places where I can get reasonably priced descent hotel. preferably closer to Hunter College.

That's a huge area, and most of it is not particularly tourist friendly. Unless you're on an extremely tight budget I would get something in Midtown East. You could try Priceline: put in Midtown East/Three Stars/$125 and you'll probably find something.

Hunter's very easy to get to from the 6 Train (MTA NYC Transit Subway Line Information).

I found some cheaper hotels in Jamaica area. I see that Manhattan is easily accessible by subway from there. Is this area relatively OK.

There are good parts and bad parts. It's also far from Manhattan.

Why don't you try one of the hotels in Long Island City - this is part of Queens that is right next to Manhattan and therefore much quicker to Hunter College than Jamaica, which is quite a long ride on the subway.

Thank you for you help. I have reserved Holiday Inn Manhattan View in Long Island City. I got it on priceline for about $100/night. I tried Midtown East, but it would not accept any of my offers and it looks commute will take me only 20 minutes. Thanks again.
