I would like to know if the area around Northern Blvd, by the R/V train is safe? I'm considering renting an apartment in that area and if so, what sources can I use to find a place in that area. If u can help me out I would appreciate it. Thanks!

That area is very nice and safe. You can look in Craiglists for apartment listings there or a Queens Newspaper.

It's safe... you might want to worry more about noise from all the traffic on Northern than anything else. There's a little shopping area nearby between Woodside Ave. & 54th St. which might measure some convenience to you, and a little further down going toward 48th St. there's another little shopping center, so all these things work to your advantage.

I used to live in Woodside, Queens for 10 years. The subway stop there is called “Woodside” (@54th street) and its right on Northern Blvd. Its 4 stops from Manhahttan (59th & Lex). At that time, I was living as a tenant in Boulvard Gardens. This is a cooperative that has a really nice court-yard. I was renting a studio from the owner back then (later I bought a 1 bedroom). The walk to the subway is about 7 minutes. I would say that you could most likely find an apartment on 30th ave heading west. As you walk more west, the subway stops are much further away because Northern Blvd. curves a little bit south towards the 59th street bridge. At that point you would end up in Astoria first, then LIC. You can take the R/V from there as well, which is located on Steinway St & Broadway and also Queens plaza. These neighborhoods are safe. I personally never had a problem even when I worked nights and walked home from the subway.

Just avoid the stretch on Northern Blvd where the Woodside Houses are north of it in the upper 40's to lower 50's. Also as you get closer to Queens Plaza the area gets more industrial, that also isn't a good area to live nearby.

I wouldn't say Woodside Houses are dangerous at all.. most people don't even realize that they're projects. I would be more concerned about the kids from Bryant High School, than the projects there.

You did know about a major drug bust last year involving the Crips street gang right? It may be a mild project compared to others but it is still a housing project.
Queens Crap: Drug sweep at Woodside Houses
I listen to the 108th/114th precinct on my scanner and I hear a lot of crimes going on around there.

Woodside Houses are not that bad when compared to other NYC projects. But like in all of NYC, things do happen.
Places to watch for in Woodside:
North of the projects
Between 65th and 69th St// Broadway
The occasional robberies on Roosevelt
and drugs by Bush Park// Big 6
And thats about it. Overall Woodside and Sunnyside are very safe neighborhoods

Very Good area. Check the local papers, they might have Apt Listings in that area
