Hi i'm going on a school trip to New York next year and we are going to be staying in this hotel. I know that its near to alot of the attractions, that we'll be seeing, but is it a good hotel? What are your thoughts or experiences?

As one reviewer put it over at TripAdvisor.com, "OK if you like Blackpool B&B standards." As you're from England, I suppose you'll know what that means.
Half the hotel is a hostel, the other half is a budget hotel. Everything I've heard is that you want to stay in the hotel part and the rooms are usually clean but very basic.
Really, the greatest concern for a NYC hotel is that it be clean, safe, and quiet enough to sleep at night and in that, the Gershwin is usually good. Even better is that what I've heard about it is all pre-rennovation, so it's likely to be a step-up.
