Our first trip to NY, NY. Our first day will have been all in Central Park then SIFerry and dinner at the Seaport. My questions are for our second day inthe city (Oct. 14th), for our 5yr wedding anniversary. I made this tour through downtown with our points of interest. It's about 8 miles straight through (w/o milling about) so I think it'll be a very full day. Here is the map link, click "Downtown Tour" at the left...(I also am looking for a info on "The Borough's Tour" our 3rd day)

Google Maps

My questions are as follows:

1) If we take the subway north from Battery park what time would we need to get on to be at Rooftop on the Rock by 6:30 (sunset's at 7:00)?
2) We're coming from Ocean Grove. What is the best way AND TIME to get Columbus circle/Carnegie hall area in the morning?
3) Any suggestions or recommendations for our tour (places to eat; drink; see; do). We'll be in Chinatown &/or Little Italy for an early dinner. What about lunch somewhere between Bryant park and Washington Square?
4) Any suggestions on stops I haven't included or shouldn't bother going to?

Some info on us...
We are new parents (w/o child), we like architecture & local culture, in our early 30's. Many thanks to all for your suggestions.

If you want a Brooklyn tour I would recommend that you:

Walk over the Brooklyn Bridge.

Explore Dumbo (some of my favorite architecture in the city).

Cross over into Brooklyn Heights and then into Downtown Brooklyn.

Take Flatbush up to Grand Army Plaza (you could take subway, too).

Explore Prospect Park.

Circle back through Park Slope to see the beautiful brownstones and have a great dinner.

I would add to the Brooklyn Heights part - a walk on the Promenade to see a great view of Lower Manhattan.

I suggest you go to the MTA NYC Transit website travel planner for subway ride times: MTA NYC Transit - Trip Planner .

I suggest Virgil's Barbecue next to Times Square on W. 44th St. Although sometimes you have to wait for a table, but it is worth it. While you are waiting (if it is a longer wait!) you can walk around the area.
