My boyfriend and I will be relocating to Brooklyn next month with our one year old. We already have jobs secured (both in the city, mine on 36th and 5th and his on 85th and 3rd).

Can anyone recommend a good kid-friendly neighborhood with a shortish commute? We are looking for a two-bed and can spend around 2300/mo.

Thanks in advance.

Definitely Park Slope. I love it here. I don't think DUMBO is great for families, it's a small, noisy area because of the traffic, with not much to do, though there is the Brooklyn Bridge Park. Brooklyn Heights is super nice, but for either of those neighborhoods I don't know that you can find a 2BR there for that price. So, in addition to Park Slope, try Carroll Gardens and Prospect Heights, but make sure you're in true Prospect Heights, which is directly above Prospect Park, not to the right of it. Ft Greene, Cobble Hill and Boerum Hill are all great, too, with shorter commutes, but also pricey. Greenpoint, would be great and in your price range, but may be too far for your jobs. Getting to the Upper East Side (85th/3rd) from below Atlantic Terminal (like Park Slope) is going to be about an hour each way, I used to do it often. To 36th St would be like 40-45 minutes.

You might want to look into Queens, like Astoria or Long Island City to reduce the commute, but I love Brooklyn. =)
