We are planning to visit relatives in the Bronx soon for 5 days and, although we have not yet decided where to stay (getting some promising leads in Jersey City), one thing we want to do is PARTY the NIGHT away! I supposed New York has lots of clubs but what we like is either LIVE music (rock, country, r&b but NO rap) or 70s era disco music with a live DJ would be cool. A place not awfully expensive (cover at or less than $25 each) and close to late night or 24 hour train or bus service would be nice. Please make suggestions!
I alway recommend the Groove on W4th. Me and my friends have lots of fun there. I'm not really into the whole live music scene but I still have a fun time there. Drinks arent too expensive either.

Try to pick up a copy of Time-out NY ..they'll tell you about basically every club in the city, who is playing, cover, etc. The Mercury Lounge is a solid choice if you're really into the music as the bar and is separate from the stage. There is also the Bowery ballroom and a ton of other places.
I second the recommendation of Mercury Lounge. Bowery Ballroom also has some very good live music (usually rock, sometimes other stuff). Music Hall of Williamsburg and Bell House, which are both in Brooklyn, are good spots. Irving Plaza is a bit bigger and tends to book more well-known acts. Small's is a solid cheap jazz place.
I'm not really into 70s DJ type music, so that I couldn't say. Also, while I'm sure you can find country music somewhere if you want to, it would be kinda tough - country is not very popular in the NYC area.
