To get to Morris Park, you'd take the #5 train. Arthur Avenue isn't really all that close to the subway; best bet would be to catch the D (or #4) train to Fordham Road, transfer to the Bx12 bus on Fordham going eastbound. Get off at the corner of Arthur and voila!

Fred, I've got to say every time I read your posts I have a vision of this unbelievably friendly guy helping out every lost tourist he sees with a smile. Anyways, just thought I would share, Happy Thanksgiving.

I think people have a hierarchy that goes something like this:

1. Manhattan
2. Brownstone Brooklyn/Williamsburg and spillover
3. Everything else.

And nobody wants to take the train down that chain. Manhattanites won't go to Brooklyn. People in Park Slope will go to 96 and Broadway in Manhattan sooner than 15 mins on the local to Bay Ridge. And nobody will go to the non-Yankee-Stadium-Bronx or Queens, except maybe the Jackson Diner or Astoria.

I asked one person about this and he said, "if I wanted to ride the subway for an hour, I wouldn't have signed up to pay Manhattan rent." Well, that's fine if you're talking about a regular commute, but can't you reach deep down for some curiosity or at least some sense of fairness to a friend and do it once a year?
Depends where in Manhattan, over 96st will get complaints/sighing, but INWOOD, will get people scratching there heads. lol

Thank you! I felt that way during the time I spent as a conductor, and I guess I've never stopped trying to help people get around NYC. (Yeah, I know; it's a perpetual uphill battle. But as we say around here, waddaya gonna do?)

To tell you the truth, I used to look forward to the heavy tourist seasons. My experience was that tourists are much better in the subway than New Yorkers. I never had a tourist question any directions I gave--whereas quite a few New Yorkers would start arguing with me. I'd think, you don't know how to get there; I do--but you don't want to accept my directions? What was in your coffee this morning?
