There's warnings posted in the buildings, they're offering to escort people to and from the parking lots, there's traps set and everything. I think it's been 9 days since it was first spotted and it's still on the loose.
I'm used to seeing pitbulls, rottweilers, and stray cats roaming around Rochdale not a coyote.
A witness said when the coyote stood up it was larger than him, that's creepy lol.

Coyotes are ALL OVER the suburbs, so the fact that they've made it to Rochdale is no surprise. They're more scared of people than they are aggressive, so there's no need to be fearful.
A large coyote is on the loose in/around Rochdale Village (Southeast Queens).

Hmmm if the witness saw a coyote that is larger than him, he actually saw a werecoyote!
Either that or the witness is a hobbit, lol.
All kidding aside, Coyotes are not wolves and most do not get very big. I thought I read somewhere yesterday this one was young and smallish. They do however seize small pet dogs & cats and could even attack small children. So their is a danger.

Wow...This happened over a week ago and I never hrd about it Well now that you've mentioned it...there's a possum running loose on my block (Nashville Blvd) and I have spotted a raccoon climbing a fence right off Merrick close to Pathmark. So to hear a/b a coyote can't be too far-fetched. Maybe it hasn't made much noise since people could've mistaken it for a stray dog. Who knows???
Generally they are more scared of people than than people are of them . They usually take off when they see a human and and most coyote attacks on humans occur if they are cornered , rabid or if they feel their young are threatened. On very rare occasions they may bred with domestic dogs ( coydogs or dogotes are the offspring) and because of the dog genes in them , they can loose their fear of humans. In that case they can be a little more aggressive towards humans than a real coyote. As far as thay particular coyote is concerned , if you leave it alone and leave it up to the authorities to deal with it ,it will probably leave you alone. However watch your pets and even your smaller children because young kids often mistake coyotes as being " friendly doggies".
They love to munch on chihuahuas. I saw a coyote track a chihuahua in Papago Park in Phoenix (Arizona) that was being walked by the owner. When I made noise it took off. They love the small critters but generally steer clear of humans. Nice thing about living in Arizona for a while is that you get to see all the animals in the wild you can only read about in NYC!
