My drivers license is kinda damaged were the top layer is coming off around the picture area. when i was in Phx airport they kinda gave me a bit of a problem about it. The thing is that im flying this weekend so im not sure what to do because i called the DMV and she that it takes a couple of weeks and that they will give me a temp one. Avery long time ago i actually had mine made on the spot did that change?

NYS DMV hasn't done "on the spot" driver's licenses in decades. You're going to have to bring the damaged license, fill out the form and pay the money to get it replaced. They'll give you a temp w/o a pic and mail the new one to you (probably within 10 days)..

The only problem you might have is that you mentioned the layer around the picture is coming off. If they feel the license was tampered with in any way, you may have to provide more proof of identity (such as a passport, a work ID, etc.) All the acceptable proofs can be found on the DMV website New York State Department of Motor Vehicles - NYS DMV - NYSDMV - Driver - Vehicle

If you have a lot of backup ID just in case, it won't be an issue. I have a coworker who realized he lost his ID right when he was clearing security. They looked at all his ID (and he didn't even have a picture one, just credit cards and stuff) questioned him for about 10 minutes, and let him board. I was very surprised they would allow that after 9/11.
