I loved the street smart, heads up, attitude and lets call it arrogance of most New Yorkers. As a 20 something, I loved the club/lounge scene, and the the 24 hour diners that you could eat at afterwards. As far as the subways, the overall filth, the winters, the crime, the high rents and car insurance rates-that stuff was for the birds.
I love the streets in New York - it's so full of life !! ...
I love lights illuminating the city during nights ...
In this town you really feel FREE ... you really enjoy living !...
What I dislike (as a foreigner) is that it has the worst roads in the Western World! It's hilarious to see roads that bad in some of the most affluent areas in the World!
In my case there is nothing that I like about NYC (it has no opportunities for me, the quality of life is miserable, the salaries are small and the COL is high, the food is awful and some ethnicities drive me nuts)

You won't see roads that bad in any major city in this World! At least you won't see them downtown!
Yes, there are some pretty bad roads but the photos from outside the Ferrari place are not applicable unless you know that the work was started on the road and never finished. What you posted was a photo of a street during roadwork - if you look at the pavement you see grooves from a machine that was lowering the surface of the road so that it can be filled in smoothly.
Of course the manhole covers are going to stick up around the sections that have been grooved down.
Too bad you hate NY but there's no need to invent stuff. Kind of like going to someone's apartment who is having their kitchen renovated - taking a photo of the kitchen just after the original cabinets have been ripped out and the place looks like a wreck and saying, "look how these people live!"
