Hello, I'm doing a summer grad school program in NYC and am trying to get any help on the best way to approach finding a decent summer sublet. I've been browsing craigslist and sublet.com but perhaps I am looking too early because I don't really seem to find anything as late as the summer yet...

I'll have one roommate (my girlfriend) so a studio or 1BR is key, but I don't really know what I SHOULD pay...my classes are at the Syracuse architecture facility on Madison and 33nd I believe

Any input or thoughts whatsoever would be much appreciated!

Thanks so much!

I think it is too early for there to be a lot of postings for summer sublets. When I moved there for the summer in 2006 I think I found a place in March or April. Rather than looking specifically for short-term sublets I also looked at long-term rentals and asked if they'd consider a short-term lease. Because of the short-term thing we had to pay more than the apartment would have cost long-term. I lived in a four-bedroom with three roommates and we each payed $500 a month, plus a $500 deposit and I think a broker fee. We paid all the money upfront and we were there for three months. I lived in Brooklyn, though, so if you're moving to Manhattan it will probably be a lot more expensive. Public transportation is really good in NYC so you probably don't need to worry about being really close to your classes.
