I wanted to know if the Crystal House (on Matthews Ave between Pelham Parkway S and Lydig) was a Co-Op or Rental. If its a rental how much do 1 and 2 bedrooms typically go for in that bldg? Any info is greatly appreciated...Thanks

Crystal house looks like a really nice well kept building and it is definitely a rental.Don't know how much the apartments go for but there is a sign with a number to call on the front of the building.I live nearby and walk by there frequently. It is a very convenient and safe neighborhood.Lots of shopping and only 3 or 4 blocks from the 2 and 5.The building is also practically on the corner of Pelham Parkway so there are lots of trees and parks around.

There is a coop building directly across the street ... maybe 2185( ?) Matthews if you are looking for a coop. That's the only coop building on that block though there are lots on Holland ,Cruger,Wallace and Barnes in the blocks South and North of Pelham Parkway and along Bronx Park East.

No,sorry,never been inside.
It is definitely a great neighborhood. I moved here a few years ago from Williamsburg and like it more and more.Nice mix of everyone and everything and a nice vibe.
It is a big building so it must have a resident super. If you don't have luck with the phone number during the week maybe you should try to find the super to get more info or another number.

don't know about crystal house, but I do know a lot about the area. Very good neighborhood to live in. Like bluedog said, close to shopping, transportation. I had a condo on Waring Avenue for 7 years and I lived alone and worked late hours. Didn't feel unsafe at all. I think buying there would also be a good investment - I turned a really nice profit when I sold You'd especially do well if you purchased a 2 bed over a 1 bed. Even though I was alone, I knew resale wise a 2/2 would sell faster than a 1/1. Good luck.

My guess would be that the studios are around $900 ,1 br's are around $1,000 or so and the 2 br's around $1,200.The apartments in that type of building in the neighborhood tend to be large.

later addition : just saw an ad for a large 1 br for rent in the coop building across the street( 2165 Matthews) for 990/mo.Looks very clean and renovated. Can't include the link but it's on Point 2 homes.
