I have never lived in Brooklyn before and I am thinking about renting a studio in Bayridge. It is on ovington avenue between 4th and 5th ave. is it a safe area at night? I finish work late sometimes at 10-11 pm.

it is a co-op building. the price is between $850-$890 plus elect. it is a 400 square-feet.

your thoughts? anything I should know before signing the lease? is the area safe? is the price ok? are there any farmer markets or grocery stores near the area?

The 60's in Bay Ridge are fine. Above 66th Street I would consider to be more the southern end of Sunset Park. Ovington Avenue (70th Street) is very nice, nice buildings, nice homes.

I live in the low 90's and my niece lives up near Owls Head park very near the area you were looking. She's been there for years and tells me she hasn't heard of or had any experiences as far as break ins. I moved hear a year ago from Greenpoint and haven't heard anything either.

Although break-ins do occur, I don't think it's out of contral. Check out this link:

As far as fresh fruits and vegetables, I go over to Bensonhurst along 86th Street near Bay Parkway. It's not far from my part of Bay Ridge and I do well there.

After you cross the Gowanus Expressway on 64th street, everything changes. It's a very obvious change and it's kinda sad too. 64 and up is really nice and below 64th street is Sunset Park.

Yeah, before the BQE on 65th st, is not bad, but you will feel the difference, after that you should be fine, its pretty quiet around that area, and theres lots of stores on 5th ave so you wont have to travel far for groceries

ovington is generally safe. the price you are getting is good. not sure how i'd feel walking home from the subway that late at night though, but i think i'd feel like that anywhere. bay ridge has a lot going on, but it does tend to get quiet during the week after a certain hour, so i'm not sure what it'd be like at that hour (i just always feel less safe when it gets too quiet at night, you know?).

there used to be a farmer's market on 3rd ave & 94th but i don't think it runs any longer. you should be able to find loads of produce markets in the neighborhood though.

It use to be in the closed down Key Foods parking lot and was pretty nice. Now it's a Walgreen's and I haven't seen the market since they've opened.
