I have been in a rent stabilized apartment on the ues , a 1br ($800) for the past 30 years. I am thinking of giving it up as i have a house in the country. Do you think i could negotiate something to move out? and if so how much? thanks everyone

You're not entitled to a dime.

You should be grateful that you had the opportunity to live on the UES for $800/mo, have lived there for 30 years, and that the Rent Stablized Apartment laws/rules worked for you.

Not trying to sound harsh, but that's the truth.

I'm sure someone on this forum will chime in and give you a dollar amount.

We can blame the NY State politicians (liberal Dems, mostly representing NYC) for this very sick situation. These well-off tenants have been given a huge gift on the backs not just of owners but also the tax payers and non-regulated tenants.

Voters, wake up!

.

I think Rent Control and Rent Stabilization is great to help families and individuals who truly need it but when you have someone who "owns a house in the country" and is living on the UES for $800/mo and on top of that expects a buyout? That really annoys me to no end.

"who truly need it"
The rent regulation tenant lobby has vigorously opposed any survey of the incomes of rent-regulated tenants and successfully lobbied to block one. Why do you think they oppose that?

This tenant is likely just the tip of the iceberg. It's an unfair, sick system that won't change until the general population is made aware of the multiple costs of this monster to them.

its amazing how the whole system is only based on how long you lived in an apartment... its rediculous criteria
