I am looking for a comprehensive list of pros and cons of living in NYC vs Jersey City for a person that works in NYC. Some issues I can think of would be:
1) rent for the same quality of apartment / house 2) travel from the JC to NYC & back
a) availability of ferry service,
b) reliability of that,
c) frequency,
d) what if the weather is stormy,
e) what if you need to get home at midnight or later
f) are there other options beyond the ferries
g) public transportation to ferry, if not -- what to do with your car
h) if you have personal experience of such commute what do you personally find the most annoying about it? And could you think of why you wish you lived in NYC if it were cheaper?
etc. 3) how easy is it to find housing closer to the ferries 4) cost of utilities (what is typically included, not included into rent), are there differences in costs per unit of electricity/gas, etc 5) taxes
a) what is deducted from the salary in NYC
b) what is returned and what is non-refundable 6) availability & accessibility of grocery stores in JC, not sure if there is any problem in NYC. Time taken away by shopping. 7) if we take the most popular/ convenient part of JC how far from Manhattan one should live in NYC to pay the same rent?
