Does any body have any tips/suggestions for apartment sharing in New York (either west brookyln / queens or on Manhattan itself - working around time square)
I can probably afford a one bed apartment but as I'd be moving over (from Ireland) on my own I'd prefer a couple of 'normal' people to share with.
Normal being people who I can sit around with odd evenings, chat to, have a few beers etc
Only really looked on Craigslist so far but havent found anyone that sounds even remotely normal. All postings seem to be from people who have no interest in socialising with room mates.
Anyone recommend any websites or approaches for finding rooms in apartments which have a good atmosphere?
Thanks

There are tons of Irish in Woodside, Queens. It is served by the 7 train and has its own Wikipedia page. Just type Woodside Queens. If Irish with Irish - then I imagine there'll be a fair amount of socialization
I may go to New York city next month and stay there for few years. So, I also need to know about the apartment there. As I will not able to pay enough rent for a single apartment. I want to share with others. Please give me some suggestion.

Try making a "housing wanted" post on Craigslist instead of fishing through "roommate wanted" ads already there. My current roomies were looking for someone to live with and saw my ad. They turned out to be great!

Very good idea - I'll give that a shot.
Can anyone recommend any other websites (aside from craigslist) where people are looking for room mates

The best place to search is on NYC's Craigslist under rooms and shares. You can narrow your search criteria according to borough, budget, and more.
You can try the local online forums of the neighborhoods you wish to move to. Many times they will have a real estate section. Try Brooklynian.com and Astorians.com . There are others you can find probably by googling names of neighborhoods.
