Has anyone had experience of responding to craigslist ads and using their Man with a Van (or Men with truck) for moving? Any negative experience?

Try looking on yelp for reviews. They have several man with van businesses reviewed.

Henna, thank you for the tip! That's much better than blindly picking one from craigslist!

There are also many customers who are kooks as well, I used to be in the business back when Craigslist was easier to navigate. This is a website where you can find a mover read reviews, etc good luck.

I used the "Man with the Van" off Craigslist about 2 summers ago when I first to Queens. Brazilian dude name Rodrigo (I think). He was a lil out there (not in a bad way of course ). He charges based on where you goin and how much stuff you're moving. I think he charged me $60 for a van full off luggage and furniture. Don't know if he's still around but he was awesome!

Very funny posts on here. I used a CL man with a van. He was totally NON-creepy and great priced! His name is John and he does Last minute moves and charges great Flat rates (there is non of the scammy hourly charges) and superb service. His number is 718-477-5234. I've used him a few times (when I Moved and for a few furniture deliveries) Good luck on your move!

Just make sure you get your price quoted to you beforehand in WRITING... I had a friend that didn't with one of these services and at the end they tried to charge her more, and when she refused, tried to start moving her stuff back out.
