Hi everyone! New here and need some help.
I will be moving to Astoria in two months and I will be hoping to start 11th grade there. Can someone please recommend me the top public high schools in Astoria?

Thanks in advance

There are 3 high schools in or bordering Astoria.

Frank Sinatra School of the Arts, Baccalaureate School for Global Education, and Long Island City High School.

Frank Sinatra is through audition only. The other 2 I believe are through regular admission.

For reviews of the schools, check out this website: http://insideschools.org/index12.php

I don't really think it works that way...

I'd try what this website says:

NYC.gov - Public Schools

You are looking to enter in the middle of things (the year & your high school career) & would likely be going to your zoned school.

Didn't catch that the OP will start transfer in at the 11th grade.

So I guess it'll be whatever is zoned for Astoria. The latter 2 schools I posted might be one.

Long Island City High School is on a list of 10 Queens High Schools that will be shut down if they fail to improve performance scores and graduation rates.

You're probably going to end up in Long Island City High School, and, well, at least you'll get a nice view of Manhattan from class...

About LIC.. I went there, it's an alright school, but they're having problems right now. There's some really good teachers, but there's too many knuckleheads who act like they're tough in the school.. it's expected with a population of 5000 kids, but just a warning.

Thanks for the answers and insight. I currently go to Newtown in Queens which really blows so anything would be better, ha.

Oh I hear you. I went to that school back in the late 80's and it still hasn't changed for the better. Look who went there,Omar Minaya the soon to be fired GM of the Mets.

Oh LIC is definitely better than Newtown.. it's a really good school actually, it's got a lot of programs that other high schools don't have.. the only reason it's doing bad is because there's 5000 people in it, and a lot of them frankly aren't that smart. If you worry about your own work, then you'll do fine.
