Is West Midtown/Chelsea safe?

particularly

400 West 37th St, New York City, NY 10018

There is a nice apartment there known as Hudson Crossing, i was wondering how the area is, is it safe? what kind of area is it; financial, more theater, more apartment, mix?

That's not Chelsea. It's pretty industrial.

That's near the Port Authority- not where I'd want to live. It's pretty gritty and run down and there are a lot of homeless people in the area. You are within a decent walk to a lot of subway lines though.

I checked out those apartments once, it seemed more like a dorm than an apartment. Area seems weird and gritty but it you MUST live in Manhattan then that area is somewhat cheaper than most of the borough. I think its a nice LONG 2 block walk to the A/C/E line.

One of the very few neighborhoods left in Manhattan(below 96th st anyway) where I don't feel entirely comfortable at night. It can actually be a bit creepy.

I consider this area to be average, but level of safety varies depending on the person.

Mainly homeless and druggie degenerates from Port Authority on 42nd down to that area. Hopefully with the expansion of the 7 train and Penn Station there will be more of a push to get those undesirables out of the area.

My fathers girlfriend lives there, I occasionally visit, sometimes very late at night..I dont really feel unsafe..Maybe because Im from The Bronx...There are some homeless people and drug addicts in the area but they usually dont bother people if you dont bother them

Hey, I'm thinking about moving onto 30th street (between 8th and 9th avenue). Is that block safe? I'm a single woman, early 20s. Thanks.
