I was waiting for a train in the Kingsbridge Rd station of the 4 train. I noticed from the station the run- down looking tenements along Morris Avenue north of Kingsbridge Rd.

These tenements were always run- down looking. In fact, my mom who grew up further down said those tenements always looked run- down for decades

Is this area run down because it was always poor or is it just blight from the areas south?

I was always curious about this area because when older people my folks age talked of popular streets like Morris Avenue, they were always talking about areas further down. I never heard them talk about Morris or Creston and 196th. 198th etc. I might guess this areas was less popular decades ago?
