I've noticed and even responded to some threads about what people don't like about the subway/MTA , pet peeves , dangerous stations , etc. I'm a subway motorman (train operator) and I would like to pose the question What does anyone like about the subway ... hopefully there will be at least one or two positive responses. I'm 35 and have been doing this job for 3 years. I rode the subways as a commuter for 32 years before that and I had the same gripes and complaints and opinions as the general riding public , but even before I joined the evil empire (the MTA ) I could see good things down here. And I want to throw it out there that most of the employees that work for the MTA , particularly those in safety sensitive titles , really do have your best interests at heart. We can't control train traffic and overcrowding and the re-routing of trains , but what we can control , we generally do our best. Any positive feedback from anyone?

The memories of getting off at River rd ,outside The Stadium with my dad- -and the smell of those dirty water dogs wafting thru the air

Really its very convienent- relatively safe when compared to the 70,and 80,s

Recently I was on the subway and the conductor was HILARIOUS!!! I have heard stories about funny conductors but I never get the pleasure of being on their train. I actually didn’t want to get off the train.. Other than that yeah.. MTA sucks... But it’s good for EVENTUALLY getting from point A to point B!

I love the subway! Sure, I have my peeves as most of us do but without the subway NYC would never have become what it is today. I’m a bit of a subway buff and I actually really like the R160’s of today as well as the old R9’s I was still riding in the 70’s and everything in between. Except for the R46 and R68’s. Don’t care for those 75 ft. cars. Never felt comfortable being trapped in one car.

i am not really sure why people complain about the cost of the subway, when its is still the most cost effienct way to travel anywhere in the state!

i love the characters on the train
You can learn so much about nyc, if you take a subway line from beginning to end, exploring various neighborhoods in nyc.
