Yeah native New Yorkers are really nice and polite across all socio-economic groups. I've yet to come across a mean native New Yorker in my 10 plus years here, they're usually exceptionally nice. I don't know where the stereotype of New Yorkers being rude comes from? It must be from some higher-than-thou transplants from the Midwest that walk around in $1000 suits and think they're fancy schmancy New Yorkers now because they moved here a couple years ago and just got a NYPL library card and NYSC backpack. In my experience, you'd get more attitude in a transplant area than somewhere in Queens, where people have lived there for generations.
